Every Prophet had a Sign the People Believed In
It is narrated on the authority of Abu Hurraira radiyalaahu anhu that the prophet salalaahu aleyhiwassalam said, "There has never been a prophet of the prophets who was not bestowed a sign amongst the signs which were bestowed (on earlier prophets), human beings believed in it and verily I have been confered (granted or bestowed) upon revelation (The Holy Quran) which Allah revealed to me.
I hope that I will have the greatest number of followers on the Day of Resurrection".

From this hadieth we discover that every prophet received a sign appropriate to their time which reflected the things that were prevalent. Prophet Musa aleyhi salaam for example was given the ability to do the best of magic in order to overtake the magic which was already in existence at that time. Isa aleyhi salaam was given the ability to heal and resurrect people by Allah’s permission. Muhammad salalaahu aleyhi wassalam was given eloquence and the best form of poetry/speech. The quran left the people gob smacked. Unlike the other scriptures the quran has not been distorted because Allah promised to protect it. The prophet salalaahu aleyhiwassalam hopes to have the largest number of followers on the Day of Judgment and thus he says; ‘Marry those sisters who are kind and love to bear children. For I will compete on the Day of Judgment with your numbers’.
